Gentle Max Pro

GentleMax Pro® is a laser hair removal (LHR) platform with dual wavelengths for rapid results and a more comfortable experience.

We have good news if you’re accustomed to thinking of hair removal as a painful process, or have concerns for safety with darker skin tones. Men and women regularly seek permanent hair removal, yet cringe-worthy discomfort has always been a top concern.

Candela is an industry-leading laser manufacturer who keeps patient safety and top of mind when developing new technology. In Gentlemax Pro®, they’ve created a laser for hair removal, pigmented lesions and small vascular lesions, all while lowering risks and discomfort.

Best of all- it’s incredibly flexible and powerful, yet safe for darker skin tones, including Fitzpatrick 1-4, and beyond.

At Philosophy of Beauty, we’re passionate about providing the latest technology for superior aesthetic care, serving the greatest variety of clients. The diversity of skin tones in Toronto, Vaughan, and the GTA make it our priority to provide lasers that are safe for darker skin tones. Discover why Gentlemax Pro® is changing the look and feel of laser hair removal in Toronto.

GentleMax Pro® laser hair removal (GPro®System) combines a fast 755nm Alexandrite laser with powerful 1064nm Nd: YAG energy. This dual-wavelength system allows speedy and efficient treatment, which translates into happier patients.

In the past, it was common to advise more than several treatments with any LHR system. Still, patients sometimes felt results were inconsistent or unsatisfying after many sessions. Intense pulsed light for laser hair removal hasn’t traditionally been safe for darker skin or consistently effective for hair. It targets pigment very well but tends to damage hairs themselves, rather follicles which produce hair. Results are, therefore, less permanent.

The GentleMax Pro® Nd. YAG laser is considered a long-pulsed laser and the gold standard for darker skin types (IV-VI). That means we can confidently treat black skin at a lower, targeted level without the typical concerns about burns or pigmentation changes.

Painless hair removal is a dream for many. Laser skin treatments of all kinds have been known as somewhat uncomfortable for the decades they’ve been around. There are different target levels of penetration and energy types, which can make the sensations stronger or less severe.

However, to aim below the skin’s surface and target follicles that produce hairs, this specificity requires deeper action. It can be relatively uncomfortable because of that.

Sensations are often described as rubber bands snapping on the skin. Of course, topical numbing creams and gels can help make the treatment gentler.

At Philosophy of Beauty, we have an advanced method for easier laser hair removal using a powerful Cryo Chiller. It directs cold air on your skin during treatment to block some uncomfortable sensations.

This technological advancement, also known as Dynamic Cooling Device (“DCD”), delivers a cryogen spray onto the treatment area, powerfully cooling your skin while the laser goes to work.

It’s essential to understand that pain is subjective. Laser and light therapies vary in their method of action, depth, and effects. As well, each person has a different tolerance and expectations. We think it’s fair to say that you should expect some level of discomfort for the results to be effective.

We also hear great feedback regarding the cooling power of the DCD system and how fast this treatment is. Because it takes less time and fewer sessions, clients have a better experience.

In the ethnically-diverse Vaughan and GTA region, we’re pleased to offer aesthetic services to men and women of all ages and ethnicities.

In the past, ideal laser hair removal candidates had fair skin and dark hair. Those with this combination of features would see the results they expected with the least risk of damage to their skin. Unfortunately, those parameters leave out a large segment of the population.

The Fitzpatrick Skin Tone classification scale is a method of categorizing skin shades. It’s commonly used as a safety parameter for laser skin treatments. Types 1- 4 (I-IV) have been the limit for LHR safety because pigment in the hair is targeted for destruction, but darker skin can absorb energy intended for hair.

In layman’s terms, the laser can confuse targets, affecting the skin surface unintentionally, leading to burns or other damage. Additionally, if the laser energy isn’t directed into the hair follicles, permanent removal of hair will not result.

Technological advances of the ND: Yag Laser finally allow for safe treatment of Fitzpatrick Skin Types  IV, V, and VI. The GentleMax Pro® combines Alexandrite laser technology for fair skin (phototype I-IV, on the Fitzpatrick scale) and Nd: Yag laser for black skin (phototypes V-VI on the Fitzpatrick scale.)

The ND: Yag works at a higher wavelength, typically 1065 nm.  That allows it to penetrate far past pigmented surface cells.

At the same time, a longer pulse duration with Yag technology means the beam doesn’t contact surface skin as often, reducing pain and potential for pigmentation changes.

As for discomfort, the dynamic cooling device (DCD), which sprays a relieving burst of cryogen just milliseconds before laser contact, dramatically reduces pain and risk of thermal skin damage.

Between these two energy modalities, we cover a broad range of tones never before possible. So now we can say, yes! Lasers are useful for dark skin, as long as you see an experienced skin specialist who’s familiar with dark skin tones and the most advanced devices on the market.

What Conditions Does The Gentlemax Pro® Laser Treat?

This fantastic technology does much more than eliminate hair for diverse skin tones. It’s also a safe and powerful device for collagen generation, skin smoothing, and vein treatment. The following are all possible indications for Gentle Max laser skin treatment:

  • Leg veins
  • Shaving bumps
  • Rosacea
  • Sunspots
  • Spider veins (Telangiectasia)
  • Onychomycosis (nail fungus)
  • Hyperpigmented patches and lesions
  • Hemangiomas
  • Port-wine stain
  • Hair removal
  • Wrinkles

There are various options for hair removal at clinics and medspas in the GTA. However, not all machines marketed for hair removal are actually lasers. IPL doesn’t destroy the hair follicle itself, but targets hairs, causing shedding which doesn’t always last.

Many practitioners will recommend this option due to less painful effects. However, it’s a more comfortable treatment because it doesn’t penetrate as deeply. Working at a surface level also makes it less safe for dark skin. We want to bypass the surface where melanin pigment resides and get down to the follicles.

During your consultation, we’ll review all possible risks and considerations, so you have the information you need to make an informed decision.
