We all battle environmental and health factors that affect our skin as we age. Unfortunately, natural production of collagen and hydrating hyaluronic acid slow down each year after age 25 and if that wasn’t enough, environmental pollutants, free radicals, hormones, dehydration and stress will all take a toll on the appearance and health of our complexion. These same factors can lead to hair thinning and hair loss, or cellulite which affects women everywhere. For those seeking to supercharge the health of their skin and hair in the Greater Toronto Area, Mesotherapy is the perfect synergy of medicine and beauty in one, powerful treatment.
What Is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is a non-surgical, injectable procedure involving nourishing formulas containing vitamins, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid. The solution is introduced to the skin and subcutaneous tissue in order to target cellulite, dissolve fat, treat fine lines and wrinkles, hair loss, stretch marks or chronic pain. These medicinal and nutritional formulations are custom-tailored to each, unique patient and their needs.
When used to promote weight loss or for spot reduction, the vitamins, minerals, medications and amino acids which are injected into the tissue, are designed to alter biology of fat cells, blocking fat accumulation and simultaneously triggering the release of stored fat. When Mesotherapy is used for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation purposes, subdermal vitamin injections are delivered in high concentrations, supplying nutrients that we cannot typically provide to our cells through food and oral supplements alone. Direct vitamin therapy for the skin’s cells will stimulate the production of collagen and elastin as well as nourish healthy cell turnover and improve circulation. Mesotherapy can also be an effective treatment for hair loss. It works by improving blood circulation and directly nourishing hair follicles as well as reducing inflammation, stimulating collagen and increasing follicle size to stop hair loss and/or stimulate hair growth.
Sessions are usually spaced roughly 3 weeks apart with 5 sessions in total. Maintenance treatments will help prolong results and are recommended once per year.
There is no standard formula for the substances injected so each treatment can be personalized based on assessment and discussion with the patient and medical expert. Many different solutions are used including, but not limited to: hormones, enzymes, herbal extracts, prescription medications, vitamins and minerals.
During treatment, the formula is injected using a very fine needle. These injections are given at different depths, from 1-4 millimeters depending on the condition being treated. Each injection places a small droplet of the solution under the skin.
There may be a slight pinching or burning sensation when the injection is administered, however, people typically tolerate the temporary discomfort well and a topical anaesthetic can be provided to ensure treatment is virtually painless.
Mesotherapy is so versatile that it can benefit almost any body area. Popular treatment zones include: love handles, the outer thighs, abdomen, double chin, upper arms, eye bags, and buttocks. Wherever you see cellulite, Mesotherapy can help tone and smooth the look of your skin.
Mesotherapy is often used as a powerful hair loss treatment to stimulate hair growth and reduce hair loss. This can compliment many other therapies to multiply effects.
- It is an effective treatment for acne, cellulite, stretch marks, scars and wrinkles as well as fat reduction and contouring.
- Unlike surgical procedures such as liposuction, Mesotherapy treats cellulite directly, promoting smoother skin and reducing fat in selected areas.
- Effective skin tightening and body recontouring.
- The fat deposits which are flushed from the body, do not reappear in other areas.
- Mesotherapy can reduce hair loss and stimulate hair growth.
- Mesotherapy does not require hospitalization, general anaesthesia, scars or downtime.
On average, our patients notice visible improvement after Mesotherapy within two to three sessions. For certain conditions, people even report seeing results after the first session. It should be noted that weight loss with Mesotherapy is a gradual process.
When we combine the targeted power of Mesotherapy with a healthy diet plan and exercise, the results are transformative and long lasting, however, regular Mesotherapy sessions to maintain results are recommended to counteract the effects of natural aging.
Bruising can be a mild side effect of Mesotherapy, particularly for those who bleed or bruise easily so we recommend that you avoid known blood thinners and supplements before treatment. Talk to one of our medical experts about medications you are currently taking. Localized sensitivity is expected but will resolve within 24-48 hours. In general, patients are advised not to wear makeup for at least 4 hours after facial treatments and to avoid taking hot showers for at least 6 to 8 hours.
In rare cases, the formation of small nodules under the skin have been reported after treatment with Mesotherapy. These formations are not serious and will dissolve on their own, disappearing after a few weeks. Let your practitioner know if you have any concern or issue after treatment.
The ideal candidate for Mesotherapy is in good health but despite losing weight, has stubborn fat deposits or cellulite that are resistant to diet and exercise. Mesotherapy is not recommending for those who are pregnant, nursing, insulin dependent, diabetic, have severe heart disease, or cancer.
