Non-surgical Labiaplasty

Just as each woman is unique, female genitalia vary significantly in size and shape. Some women naturally have a more prominent or asymmetric labia, while others worry that their labia minora, inner vaginal lips, are longer than their labia majora, outer vaginal lips. It is important to know that these natural differences are completely normal and do not generally pose a health problem, but many women feel self-conscious enough that these concerns have a detrimental impact on their self-esteem and may even affect their intimate relationships.

Hormone changes, pregnancy, childbirth, weight loss, and aging can result in enlarged or sagging labia. In some cases, enlarged or asymmetrical labia may cause women to experience pain and irritation during sexual intercourse or when exercising. Tight clothing can also result in chafing and discomfort and may be avoided due to self-consciousness about anatomy.

When enlarged or asymmetric female genitalia are impacting a woman’s life, it may be time to consider making a change to improve overall wellbeing. If you are considering labiaplasty, the caring, understanding practitioners at Philosophy of Beauty are here to support you each step of the way, ensuring that you feel comfortable throughout the whole process. Labiaplasty is a simple surgical procedure we offer in the safety and privacy of our Med Spa in Vaughan.

Although it is not frequently discussed, labiaplasty is the most commonly performed vaginal rejuvenation procedure. Also referred to as labia reduction, labial trimming or labia beautification, labiaplasty is a surgical procedure which involves trimming and reshaping the labia in order to improve its appearance and reduce vaginal discomfort. During this procedure, the excessive labia tissue is either trimmed from the labia minora, or removed in a wedge shape with edges coming together to create a natural look. With length and size of labia reduced, patients can experience a significant increase in both their comfort and confidence following the procedure.

At Philosophy of Beauty, we understand the very sensitive nature of this procedure and take great care to ensure that you are at ease both during your private consultation and throughout the procedure itself. During your consultation, our dedicated medical practitioner will listen to your concerns, assess your overall health, and discuss what can be done to achieve your goals, personalizing the surgery to suit you. At this point, all of your questions and concerns will be thoroughly addressed to ensure that you feel comfortable proceeding. Labiaplasty is performed using a local anesthetic and generally takes 30 minutes to 1 hour.

One of the great things about mucous membranes such as the labia is that they heal beautifully with virtually no visible scar. The natural, waved contour of labia lips and soft, natural-looking edges will reappear once healed. Following your procedure, you will be closely monitored by our professional staff. Since this outpatient procedure is performed using local anesthesia, you are free to drive home after any sedation wears off.

The recovery period is typically between 3 and 5 days; most patients return to work within less than a week of the procedure. During the first few days, the treatment area may be bruised and/or swollen or distorted. In addition, small asymmetries may be present when healing. It is important to be aware that this is normal and is not a cause for concern. To alleviate any pain and pressure, oral pain medication and topical anaesthetic can be used. For the first few days, you should avoid standing for long periods as gravity will increase pressure and swelling. As well, ice packs may be applied to the treatment area in order to reduce swelling. A small bottle of water can be kept handy in the washroom to rinse after urinating and sitz baths are soothing. While each individual has a different tolerance for pain, most patients find the recovery period to be very tolerable and the procedure only minimally painful.

Although you can shower within 24 hours of the procedure, it is important to avoid swimming or hot tubs until the incisions are completely closed. In most instances, this takes 2 weeks. Typically, dissolvable sutures are used, which means you do not have to return for their removal. Sexual activity and tampon usage should be avoided for a few weeks as well following the surgery in order to allow your body time to heal and not place unnecessary friction on newly healed labia.

The vaginal area generally heals quickly, so results are often visible within a few weeks. However, swelling in sensitive mucous membranes may take 6-8 months to resolve completely so it is important to have patience during the recovery process. Although rare, there is a minor risk of bleeding, infection, and wound dehiscence after the procedure. Following all post-operative instructions carefully and ensuring that you entrust a qualified, experienced gynecologist will greatly reduce these risks and ensure an optimal result.

If you are troubled by the appearance of your vaginal area due to asymmetry, loose or enlarged labia, Labiaplasty can help to improve your confidence by reshaping the vaginal lips.
