Regular exfoliation is vital for the maintenance of healthy skin as it removes dead skin cells and eliminates dirt and oil, rejuvenating the complexion. As a result, skin that was once dull and lackluster appears radiant and refreshed. Both a HydraFacial MD® treatment and Microdermabrasion exfoliate the skin, cleaning pores and stimulating the production of collagen, in order to generate softer, smoother skin. However, despite their similarities, there are many important differences between the two treatments.
Microdermabrasion is a procedure designed to remove the top layer of the skin, the epidermis, through exfoliation. The dead skin cells are buffed away in order to reveal a softer, more even layer of skin. In addition, some of the skin’s imperfections, such as blemishes and fine lines, may also be removed. This painless procedure also works to clean pores and encourages blood flow and collagen production, which helps to tighten and tone the skin and it often involves the infusion of a serum to target your specific skin concerns. Immediately following this procedure, patients often experience mild redness and swelling, which can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on the individual.
While a HydraFacial MD® treatment, sometimes referred to as “wet Microdermabrasion,” has all of the same benefits of Microdermabrasion, it is a more advanced and customizable treatment option. In addition to exfoliating the skin, this 4-step treatment cleanses, extracts, and hydrates the skin, targeting the patient’s individual skin concerns. Prior to the procedure, one of our highly trained specialists will complete a skin analysis to determine the most suitable treatment option for your skin type.
First, skin is cleansed and exfoliated, removing dirt and debris. The resurfacing wand and Activ-4™ serum works to eliminate dead skin cells and sebum, responsible for clogged pores and breakouts. A gentle but effective Glysal™ serum peel, comprised of salicylic and glycolic acids is then used to dislodge any remaining dirt, debris, and sebum.
Next, the Vortex-Extraction™ nozzle tip is used in combination with Beta-HD serum, suctioning out blackheads and impurities and prepping skin for the final step. Finally, the Vortex-Fusion® nozzle tip works to distribute an Antiox+, a medical grade serum containing antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid, which help to encourage the production of collagen and elastin, while also tightening and hydrating the skin. In addition, a customizable vortex-boost serum can be applied between steps three and four, in order to enhance the results of your treatment.
In addition to delivering instant results, the HydraFacial MD® treatment is pain-free and requires no downtime. As a result, it is a popular option for individuals preparing for an important event such as a wedding. However, because the results are cumulative, it is advisable to schedule a series of treatments at one month intervals.
At Philosophy of Beauty, we are proud to offer the HydraFacial MD® treatment, which delivers results that literally glow. To learn more about this procedure and how it can be customized to suit your individual needs, please contact our clinic to schedule a complimentary consultation.
