What Is Laser Tattoo Removal?

If you are ready to say goodbye to tattoos you’ve outgrown, Philosophy Of Beauty is pleased to offer laser tattoo removal.

You might have noticed that tattoos fade over time. This is because the human body recognizes tattoo ink as a foreign substance, and so the body’s immune system tries to remove tattoo ink particles. During a laser tattoo removal procedure, the larger ink particles of a tattoo are broken down into particles small enough for the body’s white blood cells to absorb and transport to the liver for destruction. In order to break up a tattoo ink particle, the ink particle needs to be heated enough for thermal expansion. The laser also must act quickly enough so that half of the particle can remain cool. The opposition of the hot and cool forces allows for the ink particles to separate into smaller pieces.

Tattoo removal technology has come a long way in recent years. Methods in the past were more abrasive and were not as safe or effective in protecting skin health as laser tattoo removal technology. In targeting the tattoo ink specifically, you can expect a significantly reduced risk of thermal damage to your surface skin. At Philosophy of Beauty, we are proud to offer PicoWay Laser tattoo removal. This state-of-the-art technology combines lightning-fast pulse energy and short pulse duration to effectively obliterate ink particles while limiting surrounding tissue damage.

During a consultation, our laser technician can give you a realistic estimate of how many laser tattoo removal treatments are necessary to achieve your desired results. The number of treatments will depend on the person being treated and the tattoo they wish to remove. Based on the PicoWay Laser’s abilities, we can offer the following guidelines:

  • The PicoWay Laser yields incredibly effective results in removing all tattoo colors, including ink colors that were traditionally more difficult to remove: orange, red, green, blue, purple, white, and black ink.
  • The PicoWay Laser is safe to use on all skin tones, from Fitzpatrick Scale Type 1-6. PicoWay Lasers can remove ink effectively without removing melanin or burning the skin of people with deeper skin tones. It is worth noting that, to prevent hyperpigmentation, people with deeper skin tones may be advised to wait longer between additional tattoo removal sessions to prevent skin fatigue, hyperpigmentation, or hypopigmentation.

With the PicoWay Laser tattoo removal system, you can expect minimal downtime following your treatment. Our laser technician will be glad to answer any of your questions and discuss your needs and concerns during a consultation. Before your treatment, you can expect the application of a topical numbing cream to reduce the physical sensation of the laser. We also provide a cool air device for the treatment area so that you can rest comfortably during your laser tattoo removal. Most of our clients describe the sensation as “prickly” or comparable to “snapping,” but very much so tolerable.

After your laser tattoo removal treatment, a member of our team will dress the treatment area with a light, non-stick dressing. This can be removed after 12 hours. There may be a white-gray discoloration over the treated area for a few minutes up to a few days. Though this is uncommon, a scab may form over the treated skin and fall off within 7-10 days.
